Auckland Bone Density was formed in 1994 by clinical, academic and research bone specialists in order to advance effective prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and the fracture complications. We are a Southern Cross approved provider.

 

Bone density measurements are used to assess risk of fracture (broken bone). Our Specialists can then suggest management strategies  for referring doctors and their patients.

 

Auckland Bone Density uses dual energy xray absorptiometry (DXA), the gold standard  technique for measurement of bone density. 

 

Measurements of bone density are typically made at the spine and both hips,.If necessary , measurements can be undertaken at the forearm and total body... Scans uses a very low dose of radiation (much lower than a chest x-ray) and take 20-30 minutes.

 

Total body composition studies, which measure body fat and lean (muscle) mass and regional fat including visceral fat are also available.
